Nha Trang and Vicinity


During this part of the trip, we visited the seacoast city of Nha Trang. Photos here show the beach, the temples, the Catholic Cathedral, the train station and the Great Buddha.

The Nha Trang beach is famous throughout the country. it has been compared in earlier times to the French Riviera.

Nha Trang is host to a large artist population, including an art institute specializing in embroidery where young girls are taught this art form.

The Cham temples are some of the last standing of their era.

The Catholic Cathedral was built on scale to the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris. The Nha Trang train station is visible from the cathedral grounds.

The Great Buddha was built in response to Buddhist monks who burned themselves to death in the 1960s as a protest to the existing war. The site, once very beautiful, is now somewhat dirty and beggars are everywhere on the grounds.
